The Gist Of It

Howdy, I’m a freelance writer and photographer based in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I look for ways to showcase slow moments, good little spots, and soft waters otherwise driven past. I hope to share stories that show how swell our home can be when we take the time to look.

I’m especially keen on topics that involve the preservation of the natural world, artisans making change in their own backyard, and anything that can be shared around the dinner table. I strive to honor the essence of my subject through honest, objective prose- maybe throwing in a Dolly Parton reference here or there.

I get a real kick out of combing through scientific papers and re-wording them to be digestible in a sitting-on-the-back porch kind of way. I’d consider myself somewhat of a copywriting and SEO bandit. Somewhere in my closet are degrees in Creative Writing and Business Administration from Washington College; one of these days, I’ll get around to having them framed and hung.
